New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while addressing the commemoration day said that no one will be allowed to disrupt the peace in Jammu Kashmir and those who try to destabilise the peace will have to pay a heavy price. On this day the Nation salutes the brave police martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifice was remembered in Kashmir too. This year the highest number of martyrs was from Jammu and Kashmir. out of 264 martyrs of the country, 94 sacrificed their lives in Jammu Kashmir in the line of duty. The police force has been doing a commendable job in the UT for the past three decades. “Be it maintaining law and order, fighting terror, or curbing day-to-day crime, police are at the forefront. J&K police is the country’s best force fighting on multiple fronts with the utmost professionalism,” the LG said. He said that J&K police have offered supreme sacrifices in establishing peace in the region and “rooting out terrorism and separatism.” “But there are still some elements who at the behest of our neighbouring country try to hatch conspiracies to disrupt peace. Elements trying to disrupt peace in J&K will have to pay a heavy price,”

He said the way a cross-section of society has come out on roads to condemn the recent civilian killings, which signifies that “terrorism is on its last stage.” we assure you that we will push the last nail into the coffin of terrorism,” Without naming any political party, the LG warned political leaders “those trying to justify the innocent killings for their gains, were challenging the country’s sovereignty and integrity. “I don’t hesitate to state here that if needed, such people will be dealt with sternly as per the law,” Sinha said.

Hailing the police and other security forces for establishing peace in J&K, LG Sinha said that in the last three years, huge success has been achieved to wipe out terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. “We have succeeded to a large extent in rooting out the terrorism and separatism,” Requesting society, he said “Society as a whole needs to boycott the elements who are still trying to disrupt peace in J&K.Jammu Kashmir police has been fighting the new challenge of narco-terror through its quick action response. “We committed to providing the police force with all the latest gadgets and innovative means to fight terrorism and other challenges related to it,” he assured

The LG said that the administration was committed to the welfare of police martyrs’ families through welfare schemes, financial assistance and children’s education. This year so far, 264 police and Central Forces personnel were martyred in the line of duty that includes 37 J&K Policemen which is the highest number of martyrs across the county from any force. Every year, October 21 is observed as Police Commemoration Day. It is a day that is commemorated to honour the ten CRPF personnel who lost their lives in serving the nation from external tensions. The idea behind observing this day is to remember the sacrifices of those martyrs. In the year 1959, a lot of tensions arose between the borders of India and China. The time was October 21 when China opened fire on 20 soldiers in Ladakh, out of which 10 Indian soldiers died. Since then, Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21.
